Visit the Elves Workshop to create holiday arts and crafts and enjoy live musical performances. The event is held at the park for the first time for more visibility, easier access and lots of free parking.
Fresh snow delivered to the site will entice young and old to sculpt a snow man, engage in a good-natured snow ball fight, or take part in an extreme snowboard challenge. Indulge yourself with holiday refreshments from Mrs. Claus’ kitchen.

WE NOW HAVE OUR LONG-AWAITED
ICE CREAM STORE ON MAIN STREET!
|
Two years in the making, Eva’s Ice Cream Parlour and Pastry Shop has finally opened. Oakland Park Mayor Suzanne Boisvenue cut the ribbon this week making it official. This new addition to Main Street is located on the corner of NE 34 Court and NE 12 Avenue. The bright blue- and white-striped umbrellas draw your attention from across the street inviting you to take time out for an ice cream or indulge in a cup of coffee and a pastry on the patio.
As owners Robert and Eva Perez tell it, it was Greg Trusivich, a resident in the Main Street townhouse community around the corner that during a stroll down the street brought up the idea of an ice cream parlour and bakery in this location. For many years, Eva and her father had operated an export business out of these offices and were ready for a change and a new beginning.
It was not an easy task but Eva and Robert persevered and saw their project through. They rose to the challenges and are now ready to serve their hand-dipped ice creams and fine yogurts to the neighborhood patrons. Their ice creams are of excellent quality; the French, Italian and Latin pastries fresh and delicious. Pay them a visit. They are looking forward to provide you with a sweet and relaxing experience. The shop can also accommodate children’s birthday parties.
Store Hours:
Tue, Wed, Thurs: 10 AM -- 6 PM
Fri: Noon to 8 PM
Sat: Noon to 4 PM
Closed Sun-Mon

CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS A TRULY ENCHANTED EVENING HONORING JACO PASTORIUS AND MURALIST BILL SAVARESE
|
On Friday, December 2, elected officials, Main Street board members, Mary Pastorius and John Francis Pastorius IV and their families and friends gathered to honor the brilliant Jaco Pastorius and accomplished muralist William (Bill) Savarese and dedicate a beautiful bronze plaque which bears Jaco’s biography and that Main Street had commissioned to be placed on the east wall of the Jaco Pastorius community building. Mayor Suzanne Boisvenue officially took ownership of the plaque.
It was a wonderful opportunity to also thank former Mayor Allegra Webb Murphy for her unwavering support and courageous swing vote two years ago that paved the way for this mural to become reality.
We heard from the artist, Bill Savarese what inspired him to select those particular images for the walls outside and how he arrived at the concept of porcelain tiles within the mural. We heard about the film documentary in progress chronicling Jaco’s life, his triumphs and sorrows.
The Gary Mayone Trio including accomplished jazz musicians Jeff Carswell and George Mazzoe played Jaco’s music to the delight of adoring guests. We couldn’t have asked for a more fitting tribute. Friends and family gave brief accounts of their precious moments with Jaco and cherished memories. Truly moving were the stories shared by Tommy Strand, Steve Salo, Gary Mayone and John Pastorius, Jaco’s son from his marriage to Tracy.
As the evening drew to a close, the commitment to preserve Jaco’s legacy united those present. It was an evening to be remembered.
