| NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT |
OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
BEST WISHES FOR A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
As the year draws to a close, I wish to thank the Main Street Board of Directors, committee members and volunteers as well as our sponsors and Main Street members for their untiring efforts and support of our Main Street organization throughout the past year. Your dedication to the vision and goals to improve economic viability in our city so that existing businesses can strive and new ventures can take hold is the root for a successful redevelopment in partnership with the City of Oakland Park.
It is our goal to promote a traditional commercial center in downtown that has a vibrant mix of culture and a variety of businesses, and we invite corporations and organizations to take a closer look at what Downtown Oakland Park has to offer. Ask us to take you on a tour or assist you in finding a suitable location.
Stop by our offices at 3407 N. Dixie Highway and get to know the most exciting association in Oakland Park: Oakland Park Main Street "at the heart of it all". (Oakland Park Main Street is a private, nonprofi, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) corporation.)

MAIN STREET HOLIDAY RECEPTION
|
By Tom Sukowitz
A warm, happy holiday feeling was shared by all who attended the Oakland Park Main Street Open House on Monday, December 7 at the Main Street office on Dixie Highway. This was Main Street's sixth annual holiday open house, now a much anticipated occasion.
Siegi Constantine, Executive Director, and Mark Budwig, President of the Main Street organization, led other members of the board of directors in welcoming the many guests including Commissioner Anne Sallee, City Manager John Stunson and members of the City staff. Representatives of neighborhood organizations joined us including Dr. Jack Doran, President of the Corals of Oakland Park Homeowners Association.
What is a holiday party without food and drink? The Open House had both in abundance. Board and committee members had prepared many of their favorite recipes, and Chef Giacomo of The Primavera Italian Restaurant donated platters upon platters of veal marsala and other scrumptous dishes. Of course, the long table loaded with sweet desserts was a temptation that could not be resisted.
Ms. Constantine, Mr. Budwig, the Board of Directors and volunteers of Main Street are looking forward to another year of accomplishments to make the downtown district a viable destination for residents and non-residents alike, for food, shopping and entertainment. The 2010 Oktoberfest is already in the planning stages!
If you are interested in becoming a member, volunteering or just learning about Oakland Park Main Street, please contact Siegi Constantine at 954-565-2627.

CITY UPDATE
|
By Pat Himelberger
At long last...Main Street, Oakland Park.
It's been awhile, the buzz has come and gone and then...wow! We do have a Main Street worth talking about - streetlights with banners, even a couple of fountains. Sidewalks with inviting benches to stop and take a break. Yes, I'm talking about downtown Oakland Park. We are open for business. We've set the stage, created the ambiance, now it's time to spread the word! This $5.5 million makeover has transformed a previously busy street into a pedestrian friendly corridor ready for customers.
On a recent day, visitors from New York were taking some time to enjoy the fountain after having lunch at By Word of Mouth. Lisa told me to be sure and mention that By Word Of Mouth is the best restaurant in Fort Lauderdale - that's when I told her she surely meant in Oakland Park! A friend of hers commented he'd never seen a catering operation so well done. All in all, for a day meant for getting a picture for the story of Main Street, people enjoying our newly constructed street end plaza, made my day.
