CLEANING UP MAIN STREET

On a hot Saturday morning in July, members of the Rotary Club, Historical Society, Oakland Park Main Street and several City staff gathered in front of City Hall to clean up the downtown area. In groups of two and outfitted with “garbage grabbers” --those long metal stick with which to pick up papers, cans and other debris--they made their way up and down Main Street and Dixie Highway, filling their white plastic bags with all kind of junk. They checked behind and underneath the bushes, inspected the gutters and when they thought they had it all someone found another piece of garbage. With plenty of help, the job was done in a couple of hours. The reward: a nice, clean downtown—until next month

JACO PASTORIUS FILM PROJECT
DOCUMENTARY GETS UNDER WAY!

Three weeks ago the Producer and film crew from Hollywood, California, arrived at Jaco Pastorius Park, set up their equipment, and under the direction of Director Steve Kijak began filming the Jaco Pastorius mural. The four-man team stayed in town to scout other areas of interest, the ball field, the old house, places where Jaco played in his early years. They will be back in the fall to do interviews and more filming. This is wonderful exposure for our mural and Oakland Park!

WATCH FOR OUR AD IN THE PELICAN NEWSPAPER,
AUGUST 12 EDITION!
DOWNTOWN OAKLAND PARK – OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
“EXPERIENCE WHAT MAIN STREET HAS TO OFFER!”

When we first learned about an advertising opportunity in the historic edition the Pelican newspaper publishes once a year, we jumped at the chance to create an ad featuring and branding our businesses on Main Street. For this our first undertaking, we invited ten of them to collaborate with us and they all accepted. We reserved two tabloid-size pages and went to work. S.MARK Graphic's designed the ad and gave it to Main Street as an in-kind donation. The cost for running the ad was split among all the participating businesses and Main Street. We are already talking about doing it again in a couple of months; we want shoppers to know what businesses on Main Street have to offer!
SAVE THE DATE! MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Gourmet Food Trucks are coming to Main Street on Saturday, September 10, from 6 – 9PM. They will be situated along NE 12 Avenue from the southern entrance to Main Street to the post office. There will be music and dancing in the street and wonderful food to eat. More details next months.
